Graduations Party

Both Floyd (husband of Tara, father of Faolan) and Pat (wife of Bill, mother of many) recently earned the college degrees they had been working toward, so a celebration was in order. It was a great party that brought together long absent friends and new faces. It's always a pleasure to host a party for such wonderful people. (Joanna, those cupcakes were indeed awesome!)

Ken's Birthday Party 2007

So Ken's birthday party was a dress-up affair, which explains the interesting costumes, including this stab at punk-ness. I probably shouldn't say anything else.

Hubbardses Renovate House

I've fallen behind recently in posting blog entries and photos, and I am trying to catch up. Back in May, Ken and I helped Floyd and Tara renovate their new (to them) house. These photos are mostly of Faolan cavorting about (sometimes in dangerous places) during the construction. It was a long weekend, but we got a lot done.

Lovable Quirks Upgrade

I finally got around to upgrading the software that manages the Lovable Quirks photo album. This upgrade provides better navigation links at the top of every page, and the albums will be easier to manage. E-mail me or comment here if you experience problems.

Photo Album: Christmas 2006

Lost among the 2GB of Europe photos was some pictures I took of my family at Christmas. I'm posting belatedly I know, but I left my parents' house and went straight to Europe, so there wasn't much opportunity to post before I got back from Europe anyway. In this album you'll see my grandmother, mother, father, sister, and Aunt Pat. You'll also get a glimpse of the house where I grew up (and where the rest of the family still lives). You'll also see Elizabeth's dog (the small one) and one of Dad's hunting dogs (of which he is quite proud). You'll also see Dad's little go-kart/truck to which he's attached a gun rack(!). For the most part it was an enjoyable Christmas, and I really appreciated the chance to spend time with my family.

More from the Polish Visit

I just posted some more photos taken during the visit of our new Polish friends. There aren't too many actual pictures of our visitors, though; most of the photos appear to be of a certain little someone. I suspect this is typical behavior when adoring mothers (and wacky exchange students) get control of cameras. :-)

New Friends from Poland

In his travels, Skyler has been blessed to meet many groups of new friends, including several new friends in Poland. This weekend, those of us here in the States were blessed by a visit from Skyler's friend Wiesiek, his son Jonathan, and their traveling companion (who we were repeated told to call "The Major" since he recently left the military). It was great fun getting to meet them in person after hearing so much, and we got to take some excellent photos.

After the visitors' arrival on Saturday (Tara should be recognized here for the airport pickup), we decided to have a "Welcome to Phoenix" party at my house. This turned out to be as much Warren family reunion as a meet 'n greet. Adults and kids everywhere, and dogs running wild. (OK, only one dog). Everyone seemed to have a good time, and there was plenty of food, including some excellent Thai fried bananas prepared by Solla.

The next day, a smaller group of us had brunch at Bill & Pat's house, and then went for a stroll. There was some light golfing, as well as an impromptu and interminable game of horseshoes. Ultimately a tie game was declared and shelter was sought from the oncoming rain. Fortunately, I brought my camera, so budding photographer Jonathan and I traded off picture-taking duties, with some occasional help by Solla and Floyd.

Our new friends' visit with us ended with a quick trek through Sedona on the way to Flagstaff. The weather still wasn't sunny, but the clouds added dramatic effect to the red, almost alien landscape of the area. Unfortunately, all good things must end, and after arriving in Flagstaff and getting everyone settled, we had to say goodbye. Our new Polish friends will continue touring the US for several weeks before they return home, but I know everyone in Phoenix would like to see them again soon. Blessings and Godspeed lads!

New LQ Photo Archive

The gallery for old Lovable Quirks photos finally rotted past the point of working at all (I still don't know why), but I did some work this weekend and brought a new LQ photo archive online. There are still a few kinks to work out, but I think I got all the photos transferred. Let me know if you run into problems.

Trip-A-Roni

Photos from the San Francisco weekend trip. Highlights include the Golden Gate Bridge, the Most Crooked Street, the scenery of California's Highway 1 (co-starring 2005 Grand Am GT in its first road trip appearance), and Slap-Happy Car Trip Faces.

New Lovable Quirks Photo Album

If you're a frequenter of Lovable Quirks (or you are a Quirk yourself), you have probably noticed there have been no new pictures on the Lovable Quirks site for awhile. That is because the Gallery software we were using to display our photo albums stopped accepting new photos; it continues to display our old pictures, but wouldn't accept new ones. This is apparently due to some upgrades on our webhost, but despite our best efforts neither I nor the hosting company can get the old Gallery installation working properly. So, I finally decided to get new album software. The software is fairly nice, and we will be able to make changes as necessary since the new software is more flexible than the old. So the bottom line is: Lovable Quirks is back in business! Let's hear it for new pictures!
